Tour Details
At 3,905 m, the Ortler stands as the highest peak in South Tyrol and the entire Tyrol region. This glaciated giant dominates the Ortler Alps and has shaped alpine history ever since its legendary first ascent in 1804 under Archduke Johann of Austria. Today, the Ortler remains one of the most iconic summit goals in the Eastern Alps.
The normal route leads from the north and is a true classic: a demanding high-altitude, mixed climb over glaciers, steep firn slopes and exposed passages. The impressive north face, the largest ice wall in the Eastern Alps, forms a dramatic backdrop to this ascent. It is a serious alpine challenge that requires solid fitness, sure-footedness and experience at altitude. Alongside the normal route, the Ortler offers other famous climbs such as the Hintergrat, the Hochjochgrat and the ascent from the Payerhütte.
On the Ortler Normal Route, your local IFMGA mountain guide from South Tyrol leads you safely and efficiently to the summit. With deep knowledge of conditions, terrain and route variations, we make this demanding climb a safe and unforgettable experience.
