Full Description
The Normal Route on the Five Finger Peak (Cinque Dita) is a classic and exposed alpine climb in the Dolomites region, rising above the Sella Pass at the entrance to Val Gardena. Known for its distinctive rock towers resembling an open hand, this route offers an unforgettable day of varied climbing in a spectacular alpine setting. It is an ideal objective for climbers seeking a moderate but atmospheric ascent with an experienced mountain guide in Val Gardena. The peak’s unique shape and panoramic views make it one of the most iconic formations in the Dolomites.
The Five Finger Peak Normal Route follows a series of chimneys, ledges and short vertical walls, weaving through the towers that form the “fingers.” Although not extremely technical, the climbing is consistently exposed and requires good movement on rock, secure footwork and comfort in airy terrain. The limestone is solid and beautifully structured, offering a true Dolomites climbing experience. From the summit, climbers enjoy extraordinary views of the Sella Group, Sassolungo, Val Gardena and the surrounding Dolomites region.
If you're comparing classic climbs in Val Gardena and nearby areas, our Dolomites Climbing Experience Page provides guidance on grading, exposure and seasonal conditions. More extensive advice on alpine routes, via ferratas and climbing itineraries can be found in our Complete Climbing & Via Ferrata Guide Dolomites 2026, which covers both entry-level classics and advanced routes throughout the Dolomites.
With its playful chimneys, engaging ledges and stunning summit panorama, the Normal Route on the Five Finger Peak is a perfect choice for intermediate climbers seeking an approachable but exciting alpine climb in the Val Gardena area. Offering a rich blend of history, atmosphere and spectacular scenery, this route is one of the most enjoyable moderate climbs in the Dolomites region — a true Gardena classic.
